Welcome
"The Furnace"

Heart of the Pilbara

20/12/2024

Beneath the Pilbara's blazing sun, where tales of grit and glory are spun, lies Marble Bar, the furnace town, where the desert's red, wears a timeless crown.

Hottest place in the great southern land and
heatwaves rise from ochre sand,

yet life here thrives, strong and proud, in the world's largest shire, under skies unbowed.

Rivers rage when the wet arrives, floods renewing, where only dust survives.

Cyclones roar with a tempest's might, and sandstorms dance in the dead of night.

The Ironclad stands, a sentinel old, where over a century of stories are told, miners, dreamers, wanderers all, once chasing gold's alluring call.

From the rush of 1893 to the mines today, hard work and spirit have paved the way.

Tough men toil, but women outshine, with strength as vast as the Pilbara's spine.

Camels wander, shadows tall and Kangaroos leap by the spinifex wall.

Marble Bar, where the heart beats strong, in the face of trials, it marches along.
A town of fire, of grit, and grace, an unyielding gem in Australia's vast space.

What do they mine in Marble Bar

2/10/2024

Not only known as Australia's hottest town, Marble Bar in the Pilbara region of Western Australia also has a long gold mining history. Two years after gold was discovered near Marble Bar in 1891 the settlement was declared a town. Today Gold, Copper and Iron Ore are just some of what's mined in and around Marble Bar.

Can you swim at Marble Bar, asks Janice of Port Stephens NSW

30/9/2024

Janice you can indeed swim in Marble Bar. Both the Marble Bar Pool and Chinaman's Pool are suitable for swimming and picnicking. Though this time of year the water levels are falling and need a good flush out. "Local tip" pop into the Visitor Centre or the CRC when the VC is closed and get directions to Long Pool. great little swimming hole. Also the town pool has just reopened for the season...

Why is Marble Bar in Australia's Pilbara famous?

10/9/2024

Founded in 1893 with Gold in them there hills, Marble Bar has earned a reputation as Australia's hottest town. Consistently getting high temperatures during the summer months, it's not uncommon to see the mercury climb to over 38 degrees or 100 degrees Fahrenheit for days on end. Famously back in 1923-1924 achieving 160 consecutive days over 37.7 degrees... Now that’s “Hotter than a snakes butt”

Welcome to the Furnace

Introduction!
Well here we are, in Marble Bar and just two short months ago I was freezing my butt off in Melbourne. I was standing at the patio doors of our Coburg home, looking out towards the lights of the mighty MCG and home to the Pies. My beloved Collingwood Football Club, thinking about the tickets I had for the Friday night Pies Vs Dee's clash. I thought "shit" it's actually too cold to go to the footy tonight. They had hail and 4 degree's that night, the Pies won so while that warmed my heart, my toes weren't happy.

The following day was miserable in Melbourne, with our 7 year Pilbara hiatus starting to feel like an eternity. I drove to work thinking I need to head home to WA. COVID had kept us away for some years and today the 29th is my brother Scotty's birthday. We lost him during COVID, unable to return for his funeral and hard to be away from the family during a tough time, like so many others. It was time to pack up the car, the doggo "Harriet Hoova" our 5 year old Boxer and the Mrs. (Not necessarily in that order) and head off for another Pilbara adventure.

The Marble Bar CRC position beckoned me, Australia's Hottest Town, I thought why not! It's a terrific opportunity to get back to living and helping out in a small community and be an active member of a great Aussie small town, with some really genuine people that absolutely love life in the Bar.

Having a tourism background, I'd like to use this forum to share a little about life in the "Bar" as I call it, can't image that will catch on and answering any "Burning Hot" questions you might have about Marble Bar, the weather and surrounds.
So Welcome to "The Furnace" from Australia's Hottest town.
